Is EPE Foam recyclable?

Recycling EPE Foam is front and center in a world that is collectively shifting towards becoming more environmentally aware and conscious of its ecological footprint. Industries have always been accused of damaging the planet’s ecosystem and they have largely put their profits before the planet.

However, with climate change becoming a household topic and sustainability seeping into our lifestyle, industries are now course-correcting for the planet’s health. EPE foam is present all around us in various forms. It is the protective packaging material making sure consumer electronics and medical equipment do not get damaged during transport and a reinforcing element in your spring mattress, it’s the non-toxic, odourless plastic our food packaging is made of. From homes to cars, it’s present as insulation and upholstery.

It’s useful but is it eco-friendly?

Polyethylene foam's physical properties that makes it perfect for food packaging - non-toxic, lightweight, resistant to the growth of fungi and microbes, odourless . . .

Is Expanded Polyethylene Foam Recyclable?

Absolutely!

This processed material, which is ubiquitous in our daily lives, is recyclable. With the world worrying about the volume of non-biodegradable plastic around us, the recycling abilities of EPE foam is a relief and a game changer.

FOOD PACKAGING

It’s in the combination of polyethylene foam’s physical properties that makes it perfect for food packaging – non-toxic, lightweight, resistant to the growth of fungi and microbes, odourless, and low thermal conductivity. Because of its malleability, durability, and shock absorption, it is manufactured as foam nets to protect produce, cans and bottles.

What Makes EPE Recyclable?

EPE foam can endure incredibly high temperatures without comprising or breaking down its chemical structure. This high heat resistance translates to having the ability to be melted and remoulded into new commodities multiple times.

This inevitably, and effectively, reduces the amount of plastic plaguing our environment.

How Is It Recycled?

The material is crushed or compacted and then melted before producing smooth, dense pellets, which can go back into the manufacturing process.

VitaTex is proud to be a responsible & sustainable producer of EPE Foam products, by ensuring that up to 99.9% of our raw material waste is recycled and fed back into the production process.
